All Rooms Are Created Equal

When you’re decorating your home, don’t neglect areas like foyers and hallways. These narrow spaces often get pushed aside in favor of living or dining rooms. While your guests may not linger in your entry space, it is the first part of your home they see. That means they will form an instant impression about your interior aesthetic. Make sure to hang a piece of wall art that represents your personal style, as your foyer will set the tone for the rest of your decor.

Foyer Wall Decor: Pro Tips

Before you hang your chosen piece of wall art, make sure to follow this expert tip from our guide on how to properly hang prints:

“A common mistake is not hanging the artwork flush with the wall. A canvas that sticks out too far can cheapen the overall look of your space. Attention to detail is crucial when crafting a well-curated interior. If your nail is sticking out and causing a gap between your canvas and the wall, it can be distracting to onlookers. A flush frame or canvas is especially important when creating a gallery wall or hanging a multi-panel piece.”

If you’ve decided on a multi-panel print, check out this handy advice to make the most out of your piece:

* Width: for all layouts, we recommend leaving 1" space between each panel when hung, for the best airy but tied-together look! If the gap is too big or too small, you'd lose the effect of the split canvas.

* Height: the height of the rest of the panels depends on the layout you selected. Some layouts are symmetrical, and some layouts resemble a wave and feature different heights. In general, be consistent! For example, if you hung the left panel 3" lower than the middle panel, be sure to hang the right panel in the same proportion. Use your ruler and pencil to measure the right height!

Foyer Wall Art: Size Guide

Whether your foyer is a narrow hallway, or an expansive entrance, you’ll want to choose the correct canvas dimensions to fit your space. View these excerpts from our ultimate wall art size guide:

IDEAL FOR THE HALLWAY: 36"X75"

Large wall art that measures 36 inches by 75 inches in height and width can create a polished, classic look in your hallway. This wall art size works well in long hallways as well as over your entertainment area.

ON AN EMPTY WALL

Your wall art should take about 60% to 75% of the available empty wall space, the portion not covered by moldings or furniture. Measure the height and width of the wall. Now, multiply the measurements by both 0.6 and 0.75. As a result, you will get the range of canvas print sizes to suit the space.

For instance, if your blank wall is 9 feet tall and 5 feet wide, multiply 9 by 0.6 to get the low end of the ideal height range. Then multiply 9 by 0.75 to get the high end of the ideal height range. Do the same for your wall's 5 feet width. The ideal height of the canvas would be 5.4 feet - 6.75 feet and the ideal width would be 3 feet - 3.75 feet.

Style Ideas for Your Foyer

Stay true to yourself when selecting wall art for your foyer. If you prefer a traditional style, choose a classic print. For a more modern approach, go with a piece of minimalist artwork.

Abstract Wall Decor: Pro Tips

Not quite sure of your personal style? ElephantStock's interior design expert Elimar Lobo Sáenz emphasizes the visual impact of an abstract print:

“Consider abstract or contemporary art. Whether you want to create a balance of edgy and elegant, or you want to lean into the urban-glam trend, there’s something special about contemporary art. The inherent mystery that lies behind an abstract painting is eye-catching and attention-grabbing.”

Foyer Design Ideas & Color Concepts

When it comes to color, you don’t want to overwhelm your entry space. Your foyer has to lead into the rest of your home, so it should be a slightly toned-down version of the surrounding decor. If you want to go with a bright piece of wall art, keep the rest of your accessories neutral (and vice versa.)

Black and White Foyer Ideas

If you’re stumped on your color palette, consider a tried-and-true classic: black and white. Black and white will go with any decor, so you don’t have to worry about these shades clashing with the rest of your home.
