Dark Green Accent Wall Color Palettes

The best way to build a dark green color palette is to focus on shades found in nature. Organic hues will blend well with both light and dark green tones, and they will instantly give your home a tranquil feel. You can also accessorize with colors like sea blue and ivory for a cool, calming look.

Orange Wall Décor

One of the top trending color pairings for 2022 is emerald green with a terracotta or rust-inspired orange. Swap vibrant orange hues for something slightly more muted, and create a stunning contrast that doesn’t clash. Hang a piece of burnt orange wall décor against a green backdrop for optimal results.

Trending Green Hues

Behr’s #1 color trend for the upcoming year is “Breezeway,” a silvery mint green. This is an excellent color to pair with a dark green accent wall for a stunning monochromatic color palette. Check out this excerpt from our article all about this trending shade:

“While 2022 trends aren’t completely lacking in warmer shades, there is a noticeable focus on cool, calming colors. Breezeway is the perfect balance between relaxing and rejuvenating. While it is easy on the eyes, it also represents forging new beginnings. If you’ve been searching for a color that looks serene and invigorating at the same time, Breezeway is for you.”

Wall Decor Shapes & Layouts

If you decide to hang a piece of artwork on your green accent wall, you have to choose the right shape and layout for your space. Match your desired aesthetic to our list of canvas shapes below for an effortlessly stylish look:

For the traditional decorator: 1-Piece Canvas

For the trend-setting designer: 2-Piece Split Canvas

For the homeowner who loves modernism: 3 to 5-Piece Multi-Panel Canvas

For the eclectic décor aficionado: 7-Piece Hexagonal Canvas

Layout Tips & Tricks

Remember whichever layout you choose, where you place your artwork on your green accent wall is also crucial. Follow this expert tip from our guide to hanging your wall art the right way:

“Always leave enough room in between the edge of the wall and your canvas print. There should be at least a foot from where the wall ends, before the edge of your wall art begins. Hanging your art too close to the end of the wall can make a space look cramped and cluttered. Your interior should feel easy and breezy, so it’s important to avoid an unbalanced layout.”

Wall Art Size Guide

An accent wall will look bland without a statement piece. That’s why you have to make sure that the focal point you choose is the right size for your wall space. Follow this professional advice from our Ultimate Wall Art Size Guide:

  1. ON AN EMPTY WALL

Your piece of art should take up about 60% to 75% of the overall empty wall space. This refers to the portion not covered by moldings or decor. First, measure the height and width of the wall. Next, multiply the both of the measurements by 0.6 and 0.75. This will give you the range of canvas print sizes to suit the space.

If you need an example, imagine your wall is 9 feet tall and 5 feet wide. Multiply 9 by 0.6 to get the low end of the ideal height range. Then, multiply 9 by 0.75 to get the high end of the perfect height range. Do the same for your wall's 5 feet width. The ideal height of the canvas would be 5.4 - 6.75 and the ideal width would be 3 feet - 3.75 feet.

  1. ABOVE FURNITURE

Wall art that you want to hang over furniture, such as a sofa or headboard, should be between 2/3 and 3/4 of the furniture's width. To measure the best art size to hang above a piece of furniture, use this example: If your couch is 6 feet wide, multiply it by 0.66 and 0.75. You need a canvas between 3.96 feet and 4.5 feet wide to fit nicely above the couch.

PS If a dark green accent wall feels too intimidating, but you’re still interested in experimenting with the trend, try a more muted version with a slightly lighter tone.

Contemporary Wall Art Styles

You don’t have to put your wall art right on your accent wall. In fact, artwork can be a great way to tie in your green accent wall. Hang a piece of art that includes deep green tones adjacent to your green wall. A foolproof style option is a multi-panel, abstract print.

Tips From an Expert

ElephantStock's interior design expert Elimar Lobo Sáenz explains the benefits of abstract modern art:

“Nothing elevates a room in the same way as a striking piece of abstract art. Contemporary or abstract artwork is all about celebrating freedom and being one-of-a-kind. This lighthearted style of wall art can add a trendy twist without overpowering your room. Decide whether you prefer neutral-colored prints, or a canvas full of more vivid hues. Even if you are hanging your print on a bold accent wall, don’t shy away from exciting, unexpected designs.”

Bedroom Wall Art for Green Walls

Green is the perfect shade for your bedroom walls due to its serene effect. Cool colors like blue and green aren’t just trendy, they’re also ideal for a relaxing space. Paint the wall behind your bed in a leafy green shade, and add a piece of art above your headboard in the center of the wall. Experiment with warm neutrals to contrast the cool statement shade.
