Meet Our Artist of the Month!
The renowned illustrator and visual artist, Tim Scoggins, started his artistic journey at a very young age. He graduated from the Colorado Institute of Art in 1981, and for the following 10 years had worked as a professional illustrator.
After specializing in large mural work and fine arts, Tim claims to always come back to his first true love and passion - portraits.
We asked him a few questions to get a glimpse into his world!
What inspires you most as an artist?
"I think what inspires me the most is the natural world. And by that, I mean anything from the color of the sunset on the mountains to the light coming through the blinds onto someone's face. I also draw a lot of inspiration from all the many artists who have come before me."
When did you begin creating?
"I always love relating the story of my Mom telling me I could draw before I could talk. And I could capture likenesses of people by the time I was about 8 or 9."
Do you have a favorite creation?
"As far as a favorite creation goes, I have a couple of pieces that I am quite fond of. Recently, the portrait of Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands. And all time, the portrait I painted of Muhammad Ali back in 1981 will always stand out."
What is your life motto?
"I don't really so much have a motto as much as a life philosophy. Try to make your little corner of the world a better place so that anyone who comes into contact with it leaves happier than when they arrived."
If you weren't an artist, what would you be instead?
"I have loved a lot of things throughout my life. Playing Football, and Basketball, and Music, but the one thing I have always been is an Artist, and I literally don't know what else I could be if not an Artist."
