Graffiti Artwork for Any Aesthetic

Graffiti-inspired décor isn’t reserved exclusively for an edgy space. Even if you have a bright, vibrant interior you can still experience with street-style artwork. Curated by our art director, Tirzah Goodman, our Warhol-inspired collection incorporates eye-catching colors with pop art. While Warhol might not be a street artist, his work does have an inherently modern quality. Even if your interior has retro elements, Warhol’s work is the perfect way to blend classic and contemporary décor. Add a multi-panel, Warhol print for an eye-catching piece that works with a wide variety of styles. Try starting with a white base to give yourself more freedom to play with color. Primary colors are super-trendy, and a great way to make you home stand out.

Urban Canvas Art to Transform Your Space

Even if you have a traditional space, graffiti art can edge-up your home in an unexpected way. In fact, adding street art to a sophisticated space is one of the top trends for 2023. Hang a piece of graffiti wall art in your main, refined living area to create a splash of contrast. Graffiti wall art creates visual texture to balance out the surrounding chic décor. If you want your print to lean more classic to reduce the risk of clashing, you can try a single panel or framed print. Play with additional textures in your space like velvet, rattan, and even wood to balance out the city-style print with more natural and organic pieces.

How to: Graffiti Wall in Bedroom

Looking for an ultra-unexpected place to add graffiti? Try your bedroom! Your sleeping space should be all about self-expression, which makes it the perfect place to try artwork with an edge. If you want to be super bold, you can even paint your own street-art inspired mural on your bedroom wall. For something more subtle, hang a Banksy-inspired print over your bed for a foolproof, urban-style touch. You can also paint an accent wall to make your graffiti wall art stand out even more. Street Wall Art: Pro Tips

ElephantStock's interior design expert Elimar Lobo Sáenz shares her tips for incorporating graffiti art:

“Get the “urban-chic” look by combining graffiti with a relatively calm atmosphere. Play with elements that share a similar sleek, urban aesthetic. Consider industrial-style light fixtures, indoor greenery, natural textiles, etc. Experiment with a variety of luxurious materials like wood, marble, granite, leather, and beyond. These timeless finishes will create a contemporary appearance with an equal balance of visual impact. Keep a neutral base and embrace unfinished wood and cool-toned concrete.”

Graffiti Art for Bedrooms

While your bedroom may not be the first space you think of when you picture graffiti, it’s an excellent place to incorporate urban art. Because it is a highly personal space, you have much more freedom with your décor. While a graffiti print can look overwhelming in a communal space, it’s perfect for a low-traffic area where you still want to add a pop of pizazz. With the right surrounding décor, you can easily work a piece of graffiti art into your main living space, but in your bedroom, you don’t have to be as particular about the composition. A graffiti print looks stunning hung above a bed, or in place of a traditional headboard.

Black and White Graffiti Art

If you’re intimidated by the idea of graffiti artwork, or you just want to incorporate it in an understated way, try a print that is predominantly black and white. The lack of color will keep the focus on the style of the print, rather than the business. This is the perfect color palette if you want to mesh classic and contemporary styles.

Color Scheme: Pro Tips

Our resident décor pro Elimar Lobo Sáenz explains the benefits of a black and white-based color palette:

“Black-and-white interiors are timeless and sophisticated, no matter the décor. This classic color palette provides the perfect canvas for any style. Incorporate shades of grey into your black and white color palette for a modern monochromatic color scheme. This daring look can make your home feel more spacious and contemporary. You can also add a splash of color through geometric or modern wall art.”

Graffiti Wall Art Size Guide

To choose the best size graffiti canvas for your wall, follow these simple equations from our Ultimate Wall Art Size Guide:

“Any artwork you hang on your wall should take up about 60% to 75% of the available empty wall space, aka, the portion not covered by furniture or moldings. The first step is to measure the height and width of the wall. After you have your measurements, multiply them both by 0.6 and 0.75. As a result, you will get the perfect range of canvas print sizes for your wall. As an example, if your blank wall is 9 feet tall by 5 feet wide, multiply 9 by 0.6 to get the low end of the ideal height range. Then multiply 9 by 0.75 to get the high end of the ideal height range. Repeat those steps with your wall's 5 feet width. The ideal height of your canvas would be 5.4 feet - 6.75 feet and the ideal width would be 3 feet - 3.75 feet.

Wall art that you want to hang over furniture, such as a fireplace, bed, couch, etc., should be between 2/3 and 3/4 of the furniture's overall width. To get the perfect art size for the space above your furniture, implement this example: If your couch is 6 feet wide, multiply it by 0.66 and 0.75. You’ll need a canvas between 3.96 feet and 4.5 feet wide to fit impressively above the couch. Voila!”
